Palladium priced at $1,323.9 on 9/11, falling 5.37% in a day and 7.33% over 7 days. Despite the selloff, it was still up 4.53% over 30 days. Relative to its trailing 90 days, the move looks sharply weak (z-score -1.97), based on Yahoo futures data.
For metals exposure, palladium’s downside matters because it tends to amplify risk-off behavior and auto-demand narratives. A large 1-day drop while the 30-day change remains positive often signals a reversal of positioning rather than a clean break in the longer move, but that’s the part investors need to test.
Our falsifiable read for the next 30 days: if this is mainly profit-taking after a rebound and positioning unwind, the 30-day change should stay positive while the 7-day change improves from here. If the move is truly driven by sustained auto-demand concerns, the 30-day change should fade materially. Next date that matters: 2026-10-11 (the next 30-day look from 9/11).
